PlayhouseSquare Announces Broadway Summer Camp with Jersey Boys

PlayhouseSquare_Announces_Broadway_Summer_Camp_with_Jersey_Boys_20010101

The Broadway Summer Camp for teens ages 14-19 at PlayhouseSquare features one-of-a-kind opportunities to work with cast and crew members from touring Broadway productions. This year, The PlayhouseSquare Community Engagement & Education Department is offering a camp with cast and crew members from Jersey Boys.

"We are in a unique position to connect students with professionals who are living their dreams," explained Colleen Porter, director of community engagement & education at PlayhouseSquare. "They share what it is really like to audition for a musical; work with a director, choreographer, and musicians; go on tour; perform eight shows a week...everything that happens along the route to Broadway."

The Broadway Summer Camp is scheduled for July 11-15. The camp focuses on the triple threat of musical theater - acting, singing and dancing - and features master classes led by the professionals, a ticket to a performance of Jersey Boys at PlayhouseSquare, a professional headshot and lunch each day. The fee for the camp is $400.

"We've made some changes to the structure of this year's camp based on feedback from participants," said Porter. "In years past, participants were asked to audition for the camp in the spring. This year, participants will be divided into several groups based on skill levels on the first day of camp. We're also pleased announce that two need-based camp scholarships will be awarded."

Students interested in the Broadway Summer Camp may call 216-348-7909 for more information or to register. Scholarship applications are available by phone and online at playhousesquare.org/camp.

Camps are held in the Idea Center® at PlayhouseSquare, located at 1375 Euclid Avenue. Parking is available in The PlayhouseSquare parking garage, the Hanna parking garage and various surface lots in the area.

How did four blue-collar kids become one of the greatest successes in pop music history? Find out at Jersey Boys, the Tony Award-winning Best Musical of 2006 that takes you up the charts, across the country and behind the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Discover the secret of a 40-year friendship, four blue-collar kids working their way from the streets of Newark to the heights of stardom. And experience electrifying performances of the golden greats that took these guys all the way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "Dawn," "My Eyes Adored You," and more. Tickets for the show go on sale to the public on Monday, February 21. Jersey Boys is part of the U.S. Bank Star Performance Series at PlayhouseSquare.

PlayhouseSquare understands its vital role as an educator in our community, and is committed to providing arts learning opportunities of the highest quality to enrich the lives of students, families, teachers and adults. PlayhouseSquare's Community Engagement & Education Department is unique in the performing arts industry for the variety of programs it offers, the partnerships it initiates and the access it provides students, educators and aspiring artists to performing arts professionals. Since its inception in 1998, the Community Engagement & Education Department has offered thousands of events, workshops, classes and more, most with minimal or no fees, to people of all ages from all areas of Northeast Ohio. The generous support of individual and corporate donors and foundations makes it all possible.
