What's On: Upcoming Shows in Cleveland and Akron - Nov 2012

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST comes to PlayhouseSquare for sixteen performances between November 6th and 18th at the Palace theatre. Evening and matinee shows are available. Post-show chats with cast members are scheduled for November 8th and 15th.

Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his younger self. But time is running out. If the Beast doesn't learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is part of PlayhouseSquare's Smart Seats program. Tickets range from $10 to $80. Purchase tickets online at www.playhousesquare.org or by calling the box office at 216.241.6000. The Palace theatre is located at 1615 Euclid Avenue, in the heart of Cleveland's theatre district.

A CAROL FOR CLEVELAND

Just in time for the holidays, Cleveland Play House debuts A CAROL FOR CLEVELAND. Adapted from a story by Cleveland's Les Roberts by Cleveland playwright Eric Coble, the show runs from November 30th to December 23rd at the Allen Theatre. Evening performances are at 7:30pm and weekend matinees are at 2:30pm.

Christmas Eve. Cleveland's Public Square. The rough and tumble 1970s. Ed Podolak is down on his luck and in need of a little help. One desperate act becomes a catalyst to forgiveness and change when a family welcomes him into their home for a simple meal and celebration. Brimming with memories and laughter, in the tradition of Dickens, this heartwarming play is a timeless message of hope, love and the true meaning on the holidays.

Tickets range from $49 to $69. Purchase tickets online at www.clevelandplayhouse.com or through The PlayhouseSquare box office at 216.241.6000. The Allen Theatre is located at 1407 Euclid Avenue, the home of the Cleveland Play House.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Great Lakes Theater's 24th presentation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL returns to the Ohio Theatre again this year from November 30th to December 23rd. Aled Davies also returns for a fifth time as the miserly Scrooge. Evening performances are at 7:30pm with weekend matinees at 1:30pm or 3pm.

The fictitious Cleaveland family gathers in its Victorian-era parlor on Christmas Eve to read Mr. Dickens' book. As Mrs. Cleaveland reads the story to her family, her youngest child, Master William, re-imagines familiar faces as characters in the story: the Cleaveland's crotchety manservant becomes Scrooge, Father becomes Bob Cratchit; Mother becomes Belle, and the Cleaveland children become the Cratchits, with Master William becoming the beloved Tiny Tim.

Tickets range from $28 to $60. Purchase tickets online at www.greatlakestheater.org or through The PlayhouseSquare box office at 216.241.6000. The Ohio Theatre is located at 1511 Euclid Avenue, in downtown Cleveland.

MIRACLE & WONDER

Ensemble Theatre presents MIRACLE & WONDER November 15th through December 2nd. Shows run Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. There is no performance on Thanksgiving.

It's three days before Christmas. While wrapping gifts, an obsessive-compulsive kindergarten teacher receives jarring news from a stranger setting off a series of events involving missing relatives, a drunken drag queen, broken hearts, Bette Davis movies, mistaken identities, Midrashic parables and why Jesus is having a really bad day. In short, everything you might not expect from a heart-warming holiday story. But nonetheless, a holiday comedy not to be missed!

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $10 for students. Purchase tickets online at http://www.ensemble-theatre.com/box-office/miracle-and-wonder or by calling the box office at 216.321.2930. Ensemble performs at the former Coventry School, located at 2843 Washington Blvd. in Cleveland Heights.

LIVE UPDATE: VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE vs. LUCKY GUY for Best Play and More...

Vicky CroisantVicky is living her dream working as a zookeeper, spending her days with penguins, lions, tigers and bears (oh my!). Theatre has always been an interest of hers, but ever since moving to Ohio in 2003 it's become a true passion. Downtown Cleveland – the largest theatre district outside of Manhattan – is a frequent stomping ground. She sees as many touring, local, regional and orchestral productions as she can and is always looking to broaden her theatrical horizons. When not outside at the zoo or inside a theatre, Vicky enjoys photography, bird watching and knitting.
