Theater Resources Unlimited hosts weekly Community Gatherings every Friday at 4:30pm via Zoom, to explore the creation of art and theater in the time of COVID-19. Ask questions, bring answers, be part of a community - it's an opportunity to network with theater professionals and talk about keeping theater alive during these challenging times. 

During this uncertain time for the nation and the arts community, 1st Stage remains committed to creating diverse, modern work by leading playwrights and performers. Despite the prolonged theatre closure necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company delights in bringing you the same quality of beautiful, emotional, relatable stories that you could have otherwise seen on our stage.

New City Players has launched its scripted podcast series Little Montgomery.

(Jerry Lee Lewis's) lifestyle and crazy antics onstage and off are what drove his success and fame and I think it is that element, rather than just his music, that has had the greatest impact on the future generations of rock and roll.

Though last week wasn't all good news as more theatres announced delays in their reopening plan, or in the case of the Rockettes the official cancellation of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, there were some bright spots in the industry this week - Barrington Stage and Berkshire Theatre Group returned to the stage with Equity approved productions, and we learned that a third may be on its way to the West Coast.

The Barter Theatre is presenting a drive-in production of Mary Poppins at the Moonlite Drive-in Theatre, September 3 - September 19. Now, the theatre has announced that similar performances will continue at the Drive-In through the Christmas season.

Arts Midwest today announced the recipients of $1.17 million in Shakespeare in American Communities grants, with $1 million going to professional theater companies partnering with schools, and $170,000 going to organizations partnering with facilities in the juvenile justice system.

Northern Kentucky University's School of the Arts will present DANCE '20, an evening of new works by guest artists, faculty, and students. Twelve dynamic dances will add up to an evening of concert pieces that highlight various styles of dance, including ballet, modern, jazz, musical theatre, tap, and dance theatre. Performances take place March 6-7 at NKU's Corbett Theatre. The production is coordinated by the artistic team of Frankie Montazemi, Anna Gortner, Sylvia Chervus, DJ Bruggee, and Tracey Bonner.

Ask anyone to describe the Three Musketeers, and you'll get the usual answers: three heroes, bound together in brotherhood, inseparable in the most dire circumstances. They were a holy trinity of masculinity and friendship, the #SquadGoals of the 19th century. But unless one were intimately familiar with Alexandre Dumas' novel or its many adaptations, five will get you ten the average Joe today would be remiss to actually name all of them. That's not the fault of the average Joe, but rather the reputation that precedes these fictional characters. Most would be familiar with what they are, not necessarily who they are.

Today's subject Justin Weaks is currently living his theatre life onstage at Studio Theatre where he plays Omari Joseph in the company's current production of Pipeline. The production runs through February 23rd in Studio's Mead Theatre space.

Rubicon Theatre Company of Ventura begins the new year with the West Coast Premiere of NEVER NOT ONCE, a powerful, compelling and timely new drama by CAREY CRIM. The production premiered earlier this season at JEFF DANIELS' Purple Rose Theatre. NEVER NOT ONCE previews February 5-7 and opens February 8 at Rubicon's home, 1006 E. Main Street in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District, continuing Wednesdays through Sundays through February 23. A thought-provoking response to the #MeToo movement, NEVER NOT ONCE is about the families we choose, and the secrets that can pull them apart. The production is helmed by Brit KATHARINE FARMER, who has directed acclaimed Rubicon productions of Gulf View Drive (Ovation Award, Best Production of a Play, Larger Theatre), Incognito (West Coast Premiere), Heisenberg with Faline England and Joe Spano, and South Pacific (all Critic's Choices in the L.A. Florida Repertory Theatre has announced the opening of the Tony Award-winning best musical, 'A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder,' to continue its 22nd season in the Fort Myers River District. Playing February 14 to March 4 in the Historic Arcade Theatre, the run includes four nearly sold-out preview performances February 11-13.

Barter Theatre's College Playwrights Festival is a one-act playwriting festival dedicated to celebrating college undergraduate playwrights, giving them an opportunity to develop their work in a professional environment. Three college playwrights have been selected to have their plays developed and read by Barter's acting company!
